We’re looking for an experienced Shipping Lawyer to join our client, a leading global organisation, to support them during a period of team transition. This is an excellent opportunity to join a high-performing legal team and advise on a broad range of shipping, freight trading and maritime matters within a complex international business.
The role offers exposure to both contentious and non-contentious shipping law, with a particular focus on supporting day-to-day operations while contributing to strategic projects and longer-term initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Advising on charterparties, including complex negotiations, escalations and strategic matters
- Supporting legal issues arising from freight and shipping operations across energy, commodities and trading activities
- Providing guidance on a wide range of shipping and maritime contracts
- Managing claims and pre-dispute matters
- Assisting with larger disputes and coordinating external support where required
- Contributing to project-based work, including fleet and shipping-related strategic initiatives
- Partnering closely with commercial stakeholders to deliver pragmatic, business-focused legal advice
- Handling a varied portfolio of shipping law matters across multiple workstreams
- Acting as a trusted legal adviser, operating with a high degree of autonomy
About You
You will be a qualified lawyer with at least 3 years' + PQE and strong experience in shipping and maritime law. You should be comfortable working independently and advising on a broad range of legal issues within a fast-paced commercial environment.
In-house experience is advantageous but not essential.
We will also consider commodities trading lawyers with experience supporting crude oil, refined products or broader trading businesses.
What's on Offer?
- A high-profile interim assignment within a global organisation
- Broad exposure to operational and strategic shipping legal matters
- Significant autonomy and stakeholder interaction
- Opportunity to work alongside experienced commercial and legal professionals
- Flexible working arrangements
If you are an experienced shipping or commodities lawyer looking for your next opportunity, we'd love to hear from you.
