We're working with a rapidly scaling oil & gas company who require additional legal support for their small team. 

Due to this growth and increasing operational activity, the General Counsel requires additional legal support to act as their number two.

What will the role involve?
This is a broad in-house legal role with exposure to a wide range of legal and governance matters across the business.

• You will act as the primary support to the General Counsel across day-to-day legal matters.
• Taking ownership of company secretarial and corporate governance responsibilities will form a key part of your remit.
• You will help establish, maintain and support corporate entities across relevant jurisdictions.
• Supporting investment agreements and related corporate transactions will be an important aspect of the role.
• The position will include drafting, reviewing and advising on a range of commercial agreements and business matters.
• Working with stakeholders across the organisation, you will provide pragmatic and commercially focused legal advice.
• You will manage matters independently from instruction through to completion, escalating issues only where appropriate.
• The role will involve picking up a variety of legal, compliance and governance issues as they arise in a growing international business.

What skills do they need?
They are looking for a lawyer with strong corporate and commercial experience who is comfortable operating in a broad in-house environment.

Success profile:

• Strong in-house lawyer with experience handling a varied legal workload.
• Company secretarial and corporate governance experience is particularly important.
• Able to work independently, take ownership of matters and demonstrate sound judgement.
• Excellent emotional intelligence and stakeholder management skills.
• Strong cultural awareness and an ability to work effectively across different backgrounds and jurisdictions.
• Pragmatic, accountable and comfortable operating without rigid role boundaries.
• Oil & gas or energy sector experience would be advantageous but is not essential.
• Commercially minded and willing to roll up your sleeves within a small and growing legal team.

Working Pattern: Full time (open to 4 days per week)
Start Date: Immediate but open to waiting until September
Duration: 6 months with potential for extension
Location: Hybrid (office is in West End)
