Information about the business and team
Our Client has operated independently since July 2025 and following its IPO in December, it is an incredibly exciting time to join the business as they continue to build out their legal function.
 
This opportunity sits within Global IP, Marketing & Media team, a lean team of four supporting the business on brand protection and intellectual property matters. The team is currently preparing for a contentious matter with potential litigation exposure relating to trademarks, passing off and product design rights.
 
What does the client need help with?
We are seeking an experienced legal professional to support a potential IP dispute primarily focused on the UK and Ireland. The matter requires extensive fact-finding and evidence gathering, including locating historic documents and data that may pre-date the separation from Unilever.
The successful LOD will work closely with stakeholders and external counsel to identify relevant information, preserve records, track down key custodians and help build the evidential record required to support the matter.
 
What will the role involve?
This is a really interesting part-time role for an LOD with litigation/investigations experience and exposure to IP. This is mainly a pre-lit investigative hands-on role helping the team piece together a sequence of events and data that will ultimately inform their approach. They will want to draw on the LOD's experience to identify Responsibilities will include:
  • Identifying, collecting and preserving documents and data relevant to a contentious IP matter
  • Working across TMICC and legacy Unilever functions/stakeholders to determine where relevant information is held
  • Supporting external law firm with evidence gathering and factual investigations
  • Researching and evidencing key product launch dates in the UK and Ireland
  • Gathering historical sales volume data and marketing spend information
  • Identifying and reviewing packaging redesign records and supporting materials
  • Locating current and former employees who held relevant marketing, brand and commercial roles
  • Working with HR and internal stakeholders to identify custodians and sources of information
  • Assessing what evidence has been located, identifying gaps and recommending next steps
  • Applying an investigative mindset to uncover relevant facts and documentation
  • Conducting 1-2 trips to a physical archive facility near Liverpool to review historic marketing materials, posters, packaging records and other legacy documents
 
What skills do they need?
  • Experience supporting contentious matters, litigation, investigations or complex internal reviews
  • Familiarity with intellectual property disputes, particularly trademarks, passing off and design rights, would be advantageous
  • Strong evidence gathering, document preservation and fact-finding skills
  • Confident liaising with HR, commercial teams and external counsel
 
Work pattern
Approximately 40 hours per month. Average 10 hours per week.
 
Location
Remote fine, but flexibility to travel to Liverpool 1-2 times for physical archive
